Did you know that a woman has just one opportunity each month to get pregnant?  The singular egg that is released during ovulation each cycle is the one chance to conceive and higher quality eggs are the most likely to fertilize, develop into a healthy embryo, and lead to pregnancy. 

If you are concerned about your egg quality, there are some steps you can take to help improve your egg health and increase your chances of conceiving.  Keep in mind, it can take 3 months or more to make a difference in egg health but even small efforts can be beneficial

  • Nutrition – Adding leafy greens, lean meats, fruits and vegetables can help to improve egg quality.  Choose foods that are rich with nutrients and vitamins as well as healthy fats such as avocado and eggs.  It’s recommended to also cut out processed foods and excessive sugar.  High blood sugar and insulin can negatively impact your egg health.  Learn more in this post highlighting 6 fertility friendly foods.

  • Manage Stress – Yes, stress can impact your egg quality.  When the nervous system recognizes stress, it releases the hormone, cortisol which can negatively effect egg quality.  If you have been trying to conceive for some time, it might be hard to control your stress level so try a few different strategies that may help calm your mind. 

  • Exercise – Low-impact exercise like walking or yoga can increase blood flow which is crucial for egg health.  A regular fitness program that you enjoy can also help with managing stress and encouraging a positive outlook.  *Check with your doctor before starting any new fitness programs

  • Supplements – Supplements such as CoQ10, DHEA, a Pre-Natal Vitamin with folate, and Melatonin have all been shown to help with egg quality.  Be sure to speak with your doctor before adding any supplements to your routine.
