Does planning for your upcoming IVF cycle have your head spinning?  The instructions, medications, and appointments can all be overwhelming especially when feeling the pressure for everything to go right.

A tip that I offer my clients when they are feeling anxious about a treatment cycle is to put themselves in control of the things they can actually control.  Below is a checklist to get organized and feel as confident as possible with your upcoming treatment cycle.

Clear Your Schedule

Do your best to clear your calendar of anything particularly stressful during your cycle.  When possible, avoid activities that can heighten your anxiety and make space for what brings you joy. Ideally you have the flexibility to rest and incorporate self-care into your daily routine and schedule time for things like gentle yoga, meditation and acupuncture.

Of course, there are responsibilities that can’t be avoided, but go into them prepared as best as possible to limit the stress.

Medication Organizer
Your IVF cycle likely involves several medications with different instructions.  Have a designated place or caddy to safely organize each medication and anything else you may need for administering.

You can also add words of encouragement or positive affirmations do this area to keep you focused on goal.  Having everything you need neatly laid out can potentially offer a sense of calm to this otherwise difficult aspect of your treatment.

A Reminder Tool
Identify a reliable tool or phone app to help you keep appointments and time sensitive reminders organized.  Use this to store monitoring appointments, procedure dates, and reminders for all your medications.

Journal
Journaling can be an effecting and therapeutic strategy to combat anxiety and stress.  Having a special journal or notebook with you to free write, express feelings and keep notes can help you feel in control of the process and offer a healthy way to examine any complicated feelings you are experiencing.

Comfortable clothing and socks
Some women complain of physical side effects of IVF medications such as bloating, headaches, and general discomfort.  Loose, cozy clothing can help you feel a little more comfortable and warm soft socks can keep your body warm.  Find cute IVF themed socks to give you some positive vibes going into your cycle.

Water bottle
Hydration is super important for feeling your best during your cycle and can help reduce some of the side-effects of the hormone medications.  Find a water bottle you will want to drink from and be happy to carry around all day.

Meal Plan
Unless you find cooking relaxing, plan your meals for your IVF cycle ahead of time and prep as much as you can to reduce the work of cooking each day.  Plan meals with lean proteins, antioxidants, and leafy green vegetables to support blood circulations and fill your body with nutrients.
